Compton rapper & singer, Buddy, has never been reserved or introverted in terms of crowds. Growing up singing in church choir and watching his father work with audiences throughout the years, it’s perceptible within the first 30 seconds of his performance. Beginning his session by showcasing 4 songs from his most recent full-length studio album, Harlan & Alondra, he involves the audience by asking them to help him sing “Legend”, creating engaging energy that flows thoroughly in the room.
As Buddy transitions into next track, “Trouble On Central”, he’s not afraid to look directly into the camera lens, as he tells a vivid story about struggles he faced along with particular hardships he witnessed and experienced in his younger years. With the energetic vibe Buddy exudes, we’re not surprised by the key moments he leaves us with as he presents each track. Vibrational and interpersonal in his gallant narrative, Buddy’s NPR Tiny Desk concert performance is full of grace—his bright, soulful & refreshing presence being something we truly needed to see and feel.
Press play on the colorful new performance here, while we wait for NPR to upload the video to their YouTube channel.
